From Formula 1 to Health Tech and Hydrogen Power Ventures: A Deep Dive into the Career of Award-winning Engineer Caroline Hargrove CBE

Caroline Hargrove CBE is the CTO at Ceres, a world leading developer of low cost, next generation fuel cell and green hydrogen technology, where she led her team to a MacRobert Award in 2023 (MacRobert Award). Previously, Caroline was at McLaren for 20 years, first as a Simulation Development Engineer at McLaren Racing, and then as a founding member and CTO of McLaren Applied Technologies which was set up to exploit F1 technology in other markets including healthcare and telecommunications. She then acted as CTO for Babylon, a fast-growing Health Tech AI company aiming to bring affordable and available healthcare to everyone and Zedsen, a Med Tech startup where she still acts as Non-Executive Director. Caroline is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and received a CBE for services to Engineering in 2020.
Caroline will be in conversation with our E-Lab member Chris Tagnon. Chris is a First-Class engineer, currently pursuing his MPhil at King’s College, Cambridge. He has a diverse background in research, consulting, and entrepreneurship in various sectors, notably energy and battery technology. Having expressed a strong passion for motorsports since childhood, Chris has also gained experience within Red Bull Racing’s Advanced Technologies arm as a vehicle dynamics and performance engineer. He aims to bridge the gap between motorsports and the wider innovation sector by applying specialised engineering expertise to venture development in sectors such as aerospace, energy, or the future of mobility. Chris is a two-time Royal Academy of Engineering scholar, most recently awarded through Sir Lewis Hamilton’s foundation, Mission 44.
