Join us for a fireside chat with Mohamed El-Erian to discuss how countries can compete with the United States in scaling startups, what we can do to unleash economic growth while also addressing the real and present dangers of climate change and inequality, and potential plans to fix a fractured world. We will also have plenty of time for Q&A, so come prepared with lots of questions!
Dr Mohamed A. El-Erian is President of Queens' College, Cambridge University. He serves as part-time Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz and Gramercy, and as the Rene M. Kern Practice Professor at The Wharton School. A Financial Times contributing editor, he is the author of three best selling books, serves on several non-profit boards, including the NBER, and chairs the Board of the Cambridge Union and Under Armour.
Dr El-Erian formerly served as CEO/co-CIO of PIMCO , where he worked for fourteen years, and as chair of President Obama's Global Development Council. He was CEO of the Harvard Management Company, the entity responsible for managing Harvard’s endowment.
Before working at PIMCO in 1999, Dr. El-Erian was a managing director at Salomon Smith Barney/Citigroup, having spent 15 years at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. where he rose to Deputy Director.
Dr. El-Erian has published widely on international economic and finance topics. He was named to Foreign Policy’s list of “Top 100 Global Thinkers” four years in a row. He has also been widely recognized for his philanthropy, particularly in the areas of education and health.
He holds a master's degree and doctorate in economics from Oxford, having completed his undergraduate degree at Cambridge.
