About the competition

The KEP established in 2014 to encourage the development of entrepreneurial ideas and concepts, where creativity and knowhow can be converted into sustainable commercial and social benefit. The competition is open to King's Members past and present - alumni, Fellows, students and CRAs.

In the first stage of the competition, entrants provide a one-page summary of their entrepreneurial project. A selection is longlisted to receive a grant of £100 and asked for four supplementary pages of information and analysis about their project. A shortlist is then chosen and asked to present a full and comprehensive business plan to an expert panel of judges - we call this live presentation meeting the Lyons Den (named after the generous donor who established and funded the prize - Stuart Lyons CBE). Financial prizes are awarded to the winning entrants.

Past winners of the prize have included healthcare, engineering, media, fashion, and agricultural projects in the UK and overseas.
