Entrepreneurship naturally resonates with small innovative companies with a rather high-risk profile but what about the ‘back-end’ of the financial industry?

With over 25+ years in banking, Pieter Plas will share how he stimulates entrepreneurship and innovation in ING. ING is a global bank with a strong European base. Our more than 58,000+ employees service over 38 million customers in 40+ countries worldwide. ING’s purpose is to empower people to stay a step ahead in life and in business. It represents our conviction in people’s potential. We don’t judge, coach, or tell people how to live their lives. However, big or small, modest or grand, we help people and businesses to realize their own vision for a better future. This purpose strongly aligns with what we will discuss in this talk, which is centered around entrepreneurship and innovation within large financial institutions. Topics we’ll touch upon are influencing the level playing field, disentangling complexity, cross-fertilization, ownership, and hospitality to successfully drive transformation and innovation.

Pieter Plas is the Chief Operations Officer (COO) for Risk of one of the largest financial institutions in Europe, ING. With a background in Accounting, Pieter started out his career in Financial Markets. With a steep career growth, Pieter has had various leadership positions throughout different areas of the bank and has a passion for complex and challenging transformation work. That is why Pieter is also Global Transition Lead for Modelling and covers one of the bank’s top priorities: updating our credit risk models and corresponding infrastructure.

He will be joined on stage by Emma Bar Peled, a young professional in the field of Risk that will share her experience on how these topics come to life on a daily basis. Emma has a diverse background in change management and hospitality management and is currently fulfilling the role of Business Manager for COO Risk while also taking care of multiple transformation initiatives in the sphere of credit risk modeling.
