Cass Sunstein will discuss how choice engines can be designed which are aware of human biases and guide people to better choices. Such choice engines can be used to aid consumers in making a myriad of decisions, such as what type of dog to purchase, what is the best car to purchase based on my preferences, or what book would I enjoy reading next. Sunstein explores how AI can be used to guide such Choice Engines and overcome biases like present bias, status quo bias and optimism bias to aid consumers make better choices.
This will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic with Cass Sunstein and David Halpern, moderated by Lucia Reisch.
Cass Sunstein is the Robert Walmsley University Professor at Harvard University is one of the world’s most influential legal scholars. He is the author of about 60 books, including Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness (with Richard Thaler); Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgement (with Daniel Kahneman and Olivier Sibony); and Too Much Information.
David Halpern is the President and Founding Director of the Behavioural Insights Team and has written several books and papers on areas relating to behavioural insights and well-being, including the Hidden Wealth of Nations (2010), Online Harms and Manipulation (2019), Inside the Nudge Unit (2015, 2019) and is co-author of the MINDSPACE report.
Lucia Reisch is the Director of the El-Erian Institute of Behavioural Economics and Policy within the Judge Business School and is a behavioural economist and consumer researcher. Her research interests focus on the theory and application of behavioural insights to promote behavioural change in individuals and organisations towards societal welfare and sustainable development.
